Monday 10/17, Call Committee Recommends Pastor David J. Lose as New Senior Pastor

Dear Mount Olivet Members and Friends,

I am delighted to inform you that the committee to call a new senior pastor for Mount Olivet has unanimously recommended the Rev. Dr. David J. Lose. The congregation council met the candidate on October 17, at 7pm, and enthusiastically accepted the committee's report. Further, the council set Sunday, November 20, 2016, at 1pm, at our Minneapolis Campus, as the date for the congregational vote to extend a call to Pastor David Lose to be senior pastor.

Pastor Lose is currently the president of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia. Lose previously taught on the faculty of Luther Seminary (St. Paul, MN) for 14 years. Prior to becoming a professor, Lose served three congregations in the New Jersey Synod, two in associate roles, one as the solo pastor. His responsibilities across these calls included youth ministry, stewardship, adult education and faith formation, and strategic planning and leadership development. Pastor Lose is a noted author, presenter, and theologian

As president of the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia (LTSP), Pastor Lose initiated and helping lead the effort to unify LTSP and the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg. His loyalty and commitment to this merger means he will stay in his current position until its completion. His start date at Mount Olivet is to be no later than July 1, 2017. To make it possible for Mount Olivet to call Pastor Lose, I have been asked to extend my stay as your interim senior pastor. I am more than willing to continue at Mount Olivet in order to get such a gifted person to lead our great congregation.

During this transitional period, Pastor Lose will be meeting with pastors and staff, speaking to members, and crafting a vision and plan for Mount Olivet so that, in his words, he will "hit the ground running." I will be coordinating with Pastor Lose to advance this vision.

I encourage all members to come to our Minneapolis Campus at 1pm on Sunday, November 20 to cast your vote.

With joy and thanksgiving,
Pastor Dennis J. Johnson
Interim Senior Pastor
