Coming Soon: The Year of Luke!

Did you know that beginning in late November, most of our gospel readings over the next year will come from the Gospel of Luke? The following year, we will be in the book of Matthew, the year after that, the Gospel of Mark, and the year after that, back to Luke. The Gospel of John appears in all three years, most significantly during the year of Mark. This three-year rotation is part of the lectionary readings system we use in the Lutheran church.
Over the last few years, adult learning has made a point of offering fall classes that center on the upcoming “gospel for the year,” as we will again this year.
Taking time to ground yourself in the “gospel of the year” can make quite a difference to how you hear and think about each week’s sermon. Time and again, we receive comments from people saying this very thing, such as Diane Lerberg, who comments: “Doing an in-depth study of the book of the Bible that is being used for the lectionary that year has helped me hear the gospel in a new and more meaningful way as it is being read each Sunday. It has focused my attention, helped me listen more carefully to God’s word, and reminded me of what we discussed in class.”
Give yourself the gift of preparing for a more enriched worship experience! Join fellow members and friends in one or both of the studies in Luke this fall (details below). See you there!
