Young Marrieds: Dinner Groups Return!

Dinner Groups are back for Mount Olivet Young Marrieds! We are excited to revitalize these popular groups where couples gather monthly for faith, food, and fellowship. My wife Kate and I were in a group a couple years back and looked forward to each meeting. We enjoyed getting to know new couples as well as reconnecting with our current friends. Our group met for dinner, dessert, happy hour, and everything in between! It’s fun now to see how our friendships have grown and strengthened. We are friends with all those couples to this day.

What makes Dinner Groups special is that they provide an environment where we can share challenges and successes in our lives and faith with couples in similar life stages. Not only did we gain cherished friendships but strengthened our faith and marriage through faith-based conversation with other couples.

This coming fall, those interested in joining Young Marrieds Dinner Groups can request to be in groups with all new couples, current friends, or a mix of both. Variety is the spice of life – I recommend a mix! The dedicated staff at church will put together your group, help kickoff the first meeting, and provide a brief devotional to be discussed at each gathering. In addition, there will be three or four large Young Marrieds events including a beautiful fall weekend getaway to Cathedral of the Pines Camp in October!

Questions? Interested in joining? Contact Katie Shepherd at kshepherd@mtolivet.org and look for more information later this summer! – REID MASON, YOUNG MARRIEDS BOARD PRESIDENT

Walk with a Pastor is back!

Four opportunities remain to join our beloved pastors and other walking friends for conversation, exercise, and a slice of serenity. We invite you to come experience what other members treasure about these walks to and around Lake Harriet or the along the Victoria trails.

Lance and Trudy Olson, along with their kids Andrew and Sarah, enjoyed strolling around Lake Harriet as a way of spending time with their immediate family and extended church family. Trudy looks forward to Walk with a Pastor this summer and notes, “We appreciate how Mount Olivet combines prayer, community, exercise, and time outdoors with these walks.  With our busy schedules, finding time for any of these activities can be challenging.  This is a great way to put them all together!”

Spending roughly an hour walking together provides an inviting (and energizing) way to belong to the community of Jesus Christ.  Walkers get to know each other as they share stories along the route.  Whether you attend with friends or family, or come to make new friends in your church family, you’ll discover what the Olsons enjoy: “ways to connect with others in a fun, faith-filled environment.”

Last summer members of all ages came to the Minneapolis and West Campuses to enjoy walks with a pastor and others. This summer, we hope that you, too, will join us. Wear comfortable attire, bring a water bottle, and be prepared to walk approximately three miles. All are welcome; the walk is free, and there is no need to register.

Mpls Campus walks meet at 5pm in the Youngdahl Chapel:
7/11 Pastor Kalland, 8/8 Pastor MacLean.
WEST Campus walks meet at 6pm in the West Campus Narthex:
7/17 Pastor Bakken, 8/14 Pastor Zacher

Calling ALL Mount Olivet Women!

Are you looking for a way to become involved in some of the best Mount Olivet traditions while at the same time helping to make them exciting and fun for generations to come? The MOCW – Mount Olivet Church Women – has options for YOU. They include eight events throughout the year detailed below as well as 25 womens’ circles, each with its own special focus on service and fellowship. Along with the MOCW Board, the circles play a significant role in executing our events throughout the year.

Our events kick off in August with a fun, new MOCW SOCIAL.

In November, the Holiday Boutique will feature both circles and vendors selling all sorts of goods. A highlight is The Dala House that allows parents to drop off their children for a short time to do their own holiday shopping.

This year we will celebrate the 88th Annual Lutefisk dinner, which serves nearly 1400 people! Later in the month we will pause for fellowship during the 37th Annual Christmas Brunch.

The 59th Annual Ladies’ Night takes place in February and is a great opportunity for all Mount Olivet Church Women to enjoy a lovely evening with a special speaker and the men serving dinner!

In March, we have the 6th Annual Mothers & Others Tea at the West Campus. This event brings generations together to enjoy delightful treats and fun conversation.

The 45th Annual Fashion Show & Luncheon occurs in April. Always filled with energy and excitement, Mount Olivet members model fashions from a designated group of shops and all are served a delicious lunch.

Two Women In Leadership luncheons each year bless us with inspirational speakers and time for conversation.

Please join us for these wonderful events that both embody Mount Olivet tradition and show us the path to an exciting future! Women of ALL ages are needed to attend and volunteer. If you would like more information about any of these events, or would like to join a circle, please contact me.
