Go and Make Disciples

Dear friends, I bring you greeting from our brothers and sisters in Christ from Guatemala. For the last three years Mount Olivet has been in partnership with the Guatemalan Lutheran Church in the rural villages of Nuevo Por Venir and Playito Cerro Alto along the Rio Negro.

Through the generosity of our church members, we are providing water filters and cisterns to provide clean water for the families of our two villages.

Campers at Cathedral of the Pines purchased bracelets, which are woven by the women in our partner communities, to provide scholarships for impoverished children to receive an education through the Lutheran Schools. These elementary school children would otherwise never attend school and might be at risk for joining neighborhood gangs. In 2015, 25 kids have graduated from school and have moved on to high school. This is the school’s largest graduating class.

We are making a difference throughout the world. Thank you for your prayer and support. At the end of this month I will be joining 10 Mount Olivet members to visit our two congregations. We will be bringing with us two Baptismal Fonts that a member made, over 100 stuffed bears that were handmade, gifts from our Sunday School children, and your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you for your continued ministry as we live out our baptismal promises to “go and make disciples.” – Pastor Drew Bakken
