A Message from John Kapanke

These wonderful, pleasant summer days and months always seem to pass by much too quickly, but at Mount Olivet we are so very fortunate to have an exceptional and dedicated staff of pastoral and lay people who have been diligently working on our fall programming. Rally Sunday, September 13,
marks the beginning of so many exciting opportunities offered in the fall, and I encourage all of you to participate in one or more of the many programs offered at Mount Olivet. In the meantime, enjoy these great summer days!

It has been a great honor and privilege for me to serve as the Vice President of Mount Olivet Lutheran Church. In that role, which is defined in Mount Olivet’s Bylaws, the vice president performs the corporate and executive duties of the president (the senior pastor) in his absence. Accordingly, Pastor Hogenson has asked me to assist with these duties while he undergoes treatment for a malignant brain tumor. I remain in regular contact with Pastor Hogenson regarding the operations of the church so that our pastoral and lay staff can continue their outstanding work and ministry for our congregation and community. We are blessed with an excellent staff and they are diligently working as a team to build on the outstanding ministries at Mount Olivet.

The Congregation Council’s Personnel and Finance Committee has been meeting over the past months to address and plan for contingencies during the day-to-day absence of Pastor Hogenson. The Committee continues to affirm Pastor Hogenson as Mount Olivet’s senior pastor as he undergoes treatment. Mount Olivet has been richly blessed with leadership throughout its history and that blessing continues with Pastor Hogenson, who in his first year of ministry with us has had such a positive impact on the lives of so many members. We are grateful to Pastor Hogenson for his continued leadership in the face of great personal adversity, as he reminds all of us that God is with us at all times and to experience joy each day.

We have heard Pastor Hogenson say so many times that Mount Olivet is a church unlike any other! I am grateful for the mission and ministries that make Mount Olivet a special place for all of us and I feel blessed to be in ministry with you.
During this time of uncertainty, I want you to know that if you have any questions or concerns, you may call me at any time
