Whatever we believe about ourselves and our ability comes true for us.    - Susan L. Taylor

Happy New Year!  I like this quote because it reminds us to teach our children to believe in themselves, as we should believe in ourselves.  We strive to reinforce positive self-imaging here at school, and I think that is what makes our environment so right for children.  There is no wrong way to do many of the things we do here.  Your child should feel good about the things made here, or done here, or sung here.  This is childhood and it is supposed to be fun and the new year is a good time to remind us of such thoughts.

This is also a time when many of you are thinking about where your child will be next fall.  Some will be here, some will go to Kindergarten, and some will attend other schools.  Life goes on.

REGISTRATION FOR 2012-2013-  Those of you in Mrs. Johnson’s class and Mrs. Holifield’s classes will be receiving registration materials today, giving you an opportunity to sign up for next fall prior to the general mailing.  It is through this process that I determine how many openings, if any, we will have.  Every family needs to return this form as soon as possible (or by January 27), along with the $20.00 registration fee (if your child will be returning in the fall).

SHOW AND TELL- On Thursday, January 12 or Friday, January 13, your child may bring a favorite Christmas present to school.   Please, only ONE item per child!  All classes will be participating in this sharing time.  If your child wishes, he or she could also share a favorite holiday experience with the class, instead of bringing something to show.

CONFERENCES- Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held the week of February 13-17.  Regular classes will NOT be in session that week.  Conference sign-up sheets will be posted outside each classroom beginning January 23.  You may sign up in person, or by phone.  Conference time will give you an opportunity to visit with your child’s teacher on a more personal level; ask questions, state your concerns, and find out how your child functions in the classroom.

CLOTHING NOTES- There may be some new items of clothing now after Christmas, so make sure you label them with your child’s name.  Remember to send boots, mittens, hats, snow pants and jackets each day.  We will go out unless the wind chill is prohibitive and below zero.  Also, remember to send slippers to school, if you wish.

SNOW DAYS-If we get a lot of snow and need to close school, the teachers will call you in the morning as soon as a decision has been made, and/or I will email you that message.  The possibility of closing is very remote, and I can only recall it happening a couple times in my twenty years here,  but we know it can happen!

Also, remember to keep a close eye on your children in the parking lot.  On any given day, there can be many drivers, some elderly, many distracted, who are not looking out for small children.  We join with you in wanting  your children to be safe.

TUITION-  If you paid  with a VISA or MasterCard last fall, your spring payment is due this month.  You are receiving your invoice today.  If you pay by check, you are getting your tuition envelope, as usual.  (If you charged last fall, and want to pay for the remaining months by check, just let me know.)
