Youth Programs and Ministry - 7th-8th Grade

Mount Olivet Church offers a variety of programs for children and youth of all ages.  If you have questions regarding youth ministry, please contact a member of the youth ministry team or call the church office at 612.926.7651 for additional information regarding programs at either of our campus locations.

Confirmation

Confirmation at Mount Olivet is a two & a half year program beginning with the First Communion/Bible Presentation in the spring of 6th grade. The Confirmation program helps 7th and 8th graders learn more about the Bible, Lutheranism, faith and God while building relationships with their peers, Pastors and Church. During these very important years, studentsare instructed weekly by a Confirmation teacher, the Confirmation Director and Pastors.

Junior High Alive

Junior High Alive is a unique program for 7th and 8th graders to participate in fun and fellowship. JHA activities include retreats, service opportunities, peer ministry and adopt-a-grandparent.  These often coordinate with Confirmation or choir activities. See more

Chancel Choir

A group of 7th and 8th grade singers, who are active in Confirmation, and other junior high activities of Mount Olivet. This choir serves as a unique opportunity for young adolescents to create and build relationships with their peers and their church.  Join anytime!

Glory Bells

Glory Bells is a handbell ensemble experience for 7th and 8th graders. This ensemble is a continuation of Joy Bells but also welcomes new members who have some previous instrumental experience. Rhythmic and musical skills are sharpened and enhanced in this special instrumental group. The ensemble performs in worship services throughout the year and plays an important role in the yearly Christmas Concert.

Come and hang out with your Church friends for one last BLAST OF SUMMER FUN before School starts! This is always a fun day at the park, filled with lots of sweet rides and rollercoasters! This event is open to members and non-members going into 7th or 8th grade. Transportation will be provided from both campuses at 10am and returning by 5pm.

We invite you to come to the Stewardship dinner on Wednesday, September 10 at 6p at the Minneapolis Campus! You will attend the dinner with your family and following dinner parents will take part in the Communion Service in the Main Sanctuary and 8th Graders will walk over with Angie, Helen, Geoff, Zach, and Gina to the 1700 Building for a special service and Ben & Jerry's ICE CREAM! The evening will conclude at 8p. West Transportation is available, leaving at 5:15p from the West Campus and will return at 8:30p. West Transportation is available for 8th Graders & their families, you should contact Zach Spirov to reserve spot(s) on the bus. This event has been a major hit for all of us the past few years, and we are looking forward to making it a tradition for our Junior High Alive group. This is the best Junior High Retreat we got folks! Gustavus has been gracious enough to have our Mount Olivet Chancel Choir come down to the Campus for the last 10 plus years! From a dance in the dive, to sweet College Caff food, to shopping in the bookstore this retreat is a Crazy Fun one! The Chancel Choir Gustavus Retreat will take place on November 21-22. Cost is $75 and includes coach bus transportation, meals, lodging, entertainment, and Choir SWEATPANTS! High school Confirmation is open to all students in high school who have not been confirmed yet. It is a great way to get involved in our high school youth program and meet our high school youth leader, Billy Johnson, who teaches it. We will end our time together with a special Confirmation service on Sun. Jan. 25th at 1:00pm in the Serley Chapel. 7th grade make up Confirmation is for all 8th grade confirmation students who have not had 7th grade confirmation yet. We meet on Sunday mornings in January
